Warner's possible retirement to Iverson starting... really?

This week in sports was eh, somewhat boring. Kurt Warner hints at retirement and Allen Iverson got a starting spot on the Eastern All-Star Team.
As I predicted last week the Saints came out and showed everybody that the Arizona Cardinals were a flawed team. Before the game Kurt Warner had hinted at a possible retirement, and after that brutal, yet clean hit, late in the first half that knocked him out for a few plays I think he is ready to call it a career and wait for his call to the hall.
This guy has had an amazing career and achieved way more than anyone expected and he has every right to retire now at the tender age of 38. However, the guy still has it. He was one of the best QB’s in the league this year, and that’s saying a lot considering the years that Favre, Manning, and Brees had.
Kurt Warner says he wants to retire because the game isn’t as fun as it used to be for him. I’m not sure I understand what’s not fun about having 3 great receivers who can make you look like Dan Marino on any given play. Who knows maybe his body is breaking down but honestly I don’t see it. The guy has gotten better with each candle added to the cake. If Kurt wants to retire I think he should, that way he can go out on his own terms and not be forced out, but let’s be honest the NFL is a lot better with him in it, he is a great leader and a great person. Thanks for all the great moments Kurt.
This week it was announced that the Answer, Allen Iverson, would be a starting guard for Eastern All Star Team. 5 years ago this would have been no big news, just another day, but now this is a horrible story. Allen Iverson, the guy who bailed on the Memphis Grizzlies 3 games into the season then ended up back with his old team the 76er’s is going to start at the All-Star Game. He has played in 17 games for the 76er’s and has mediocre averages of 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Now is that really worthy of beating out guys like Rajon Rondo who is the most consistent player for the Celtics this year? I don’t think so, heck it’s not even worthy of starting over guys like Derrick Rose and Joe Johnson. Ray Allen had it right when he said that the fans should not have total control over the all star selections, I mean come on, how many more times are guys going to get votes because they are popular instead of having a great year. T-Mac almost got a starting spot out west even though he hasn’t played all year and the Rockets Stephon Marbury’d his ass and told him to stay away.
The All-Star game has become a joke because people are in it that don’t deserve it. A.I. hasn’t don e anything in years but yet the fans still love him, maybe he should hit the gym and practice…. PRACTICE?! Yes I’m talking about practice. Then he may deserve that spot, but I doubt it.
This Sunday the NFL conference championships games will take place. The Colts vs. Jets game is an interesting one, yes that is not a typo I said the Jets. The Colts need to win this game and the Superbowl in order for people to forget the fact that they tanked the last 2 games and threw away their chance at a perfect season. It’s funny that the team they quit against was these very same Jets. If the Jets manage to win, which they won’t, then the Colts will look foolish because they are the reason the Jets even made the playoffs. The Jets have the formula to win a Superbowl that has been popular for the last decade. First you get a great defense, then a great ground game, and finally you find a QB that won’t go all Rich Gannon on you and toss a bunch of interceptions when it matters. However, I just don’t see them beating these Colts although I would like to see the Jets go against Brett Favre considering Favre’s departure from the Jets last year. On the other side you have the Saints hosting the Vikings. Two teams with high powered offenses. This is an interesting one, I personally can’t pick between these two as to who I like more but I can say that I think the Saints will win this one. Drew Brees is too good and the city of New Orleans needs this too much. It will be a great game, Brett Favre will deliver as usual and I think Adrian Peterson is finally ready to embarrass some sorry safety trying to make an open field tackle again. AP hasn’t been much of a threat for some time but I think he is set for a monster return to prominence this Sunday. Jared Allen will dominate as usual but the great effort by the Vikings just won’t be enough and it will be the Colts vs. the Saints in the Superbowl. Interesting how two teams everyone thought weren’t going to be great this year came out and dominated.
Well that’s it for this week, hopefully next week Gilbert Arenas does something else stupid so I have a little more to talk about.
