BCS to slumps

This week in sports has definitely been an interesting one. From two powerhouse teams who were preseason favorites to make it to the finals slumping (Lakers and Celtics) to Colt McCoy and his sportsman like yet lame interview after the BCS Title game, yes it definitely has been an interesting week.
The Lakers started off the week with an impressive 35 point win over the always tough mavericks and followed it up with a 9 point win over the Rockets. Since then the Lakers have lost their last 2 games, an 11 point laugher to the clippers… THE CLIPPERS (which I loved by the way), and a 9 point loss to the Blazers. Sure they have had some injuries but come one, the clippers?! That is a sin in LA. The Celtics have had a rough week as well. They went 1-1 on the week but could have easily been 0-2 if not for a Rondo tip in alley oop at the buzzer to force OT against the Miami Heat. They lost to the Atlanta hawks on Friday night with KG out of the lineup and many other players playing through injuries. They look to rebound on Sunday at Toronto.
This week Alabama and Texas squared off for the right to call their team the best in the country. (Other than Boise State but I digress.) The outcome was Bama winning but in a surprising fashion. Not that many people not wearing a burnt orange shirt thought the horns had a chance and with Colt McCoy being injured in the first quarter even many longhorn faithful caw their season going down faster than a white girl in Kobe’s hotel room… Oh wait, Tiger is the new one right? Sorry for the mix up, faster than anything with a vagina in Tiger’s hotel room. Texas backup QB Garret Gilbert however, fought hard and led the longhorns to a great game and really gave a peak into the bright future of this soon to be star. My main problem was not with the Bill Belicheck/ Kendrick Perkins evil glare that coach Saban had after being drenched in a Gatorade bath, my problem is with Colt McCoy. Yes the kid is a class act and a great football player however, I am tired of people answering a question by talking about god. When the reporter asked him how it felt to watch his last college game, the BCS title game from the sideline, he responded by going off about God and how God deserves the glory and he won’t question anything God does. First off, do you really think he is grateful that his childhood dream of winning a national championship was ruined, no. Second, do you really think God cares about football, no. Yes God does control certain aspects of our lives and helps us through tough times but do you really think God is paying attention some damn college football game? Maybe it’s just me but I don’t respect nor agree with athletes bringing God into sports.
This week the Seattle Seahawks fired Coach Jim Mora after just 1 year and a disappointing 5-11 record. Rumor is, as is every year, that they are going to try and lure Pete Carroll away from sunny Southern California to be in the rainy, melancholy, and embarrassing city that the Seahawks play what I think is football in. Every year Pete Carroll turns down NFL job after NFL job, however after a disappointing year for USC it might be time. On the other hand, NFL teams need to start looking at history and realize that the majority of college coaches aren’t right for pro sports. Look at Bobby Petrino leaving the Falcons midway through his first year to run back to the college game or Nick Saban who as previously spoken won his second BCS title even though just a few years ago he was defending himself claiming he was not leaving the Dolphins to go back to the college sidelines. College coaches and pro coaches are two very different types and they usually can’t succeed in both. As much as I would like to see Pete Carroll leave USC due to my extreme hatred for everything they are and represent, I don’t think it is the right choice, but I’m hoping that next season I am seeing coach Carroll wearing a poncho crying as his Seahawks are losing 45-10 to the Rams.
I would like to sum up this week with some predictions for the upcoming wild card games for the NFL playoffs. Cincinnati will have a blowout victory over the Jets after purposely losing to them the week before to ensure they face the, again and not the Steelers; New England over Baltimore in a close game for the hooded one and his minions; it is very hard for any team to beat another team three times in one season which is why I am picking the big play Eagles over the big choke Cowboys (just because you won a couple of games in December doesn’t make up for the fact that you have won the same amount of playoff games in the last 13 years as the Lions); and finally I am taking the Green Bay Packers over the Arizona Cardinals, the Cardinals have a great passing attack but I think the Packers will, mainly Aaron Rodgers’ will to beat old gray beard Brett Favre himself in the playoffs is to strong.
Well, that’s it for this week in sports, hope next week is just as good. Goodnight everybody.

  1. Nice coverage of the nba as you only covered basically two teams but regardless they are the best of the best. Even with Mccoy, I think alabama would've won based on the fact that alabamas running attack looked like black people running away from lazy cops after they robbed a liquor store. Seattle is a much nicer place than you think and a much better team to lose 45-10 to the rams. Let's say they lose like 3-0. I'm sure the rams won't even come close to a total of 45 points for the entire season but I know that was a joke anyway. There has been one college coach to have success in the NFL being Jimmy Johnson from the U. Oh and give Pete Caroll a chance he wasn't THAT bad at new england. Oh and I believe Colt Mccoy will find it rather difficult to transition into the nfl. I don't know why it's just me.

Oh and your predictions were the best.
